Robin Safford Companie

Robin Safford Companie, 67, of Oneonta, passed away, July 26th after dealing with an illness that took her too soon. She was surrounded by family and friends, and even in the end, she was full of love and kindness.

Her parents, Robert and Doris Kelly Safford, were blessed with Robin on October 11, 1955 when she was born at Fox Hospital.

We remember Robin for her amazing kindness and her wonderful smile. She married Frankie Companie in September of 1987 and they spent 35 years together happily married and bonded in eternal love and friendship. Always together, and always at each other’s side, remaining true, even in her final days.

Owners of Center Street Deli for many years, Robin and Frankie created a very special establishment that included many from the community, remembered as a place of welcoming, friendship, and love.

Robin, a long-standing member of the Oneonta Business Women’s Association, is also survived by her sister, Gayle and Larry Cornell, Hubert, NC; and brother, Bob Safford, Masonville, NY, who shared a lasting bond, being part of her everyday life.

We will miss her kindness, her desire to help others, and most of all, her smile. She affected many people who knew her and she will always be loved. Robin took care of those around her, and she will always hold a place in our hearts.

To Robin, family, was most important, and she showed this every day of her life as a loving daughter, wife, sister and aunt. Robin was everyone’s favorite, and she will be dearly missed. Having a soft spot for her many nephews and nieces, she loved each and every one of them. Her first nephew, Michael Cornell, also left us too soon, now being reunited with his Aunt Robin.

Robin had many special family members in her life, Michelle Cornell and Tristan Highter, Brian, Jen and Zach Cornell, Robbie, Mylinda, Adeline and Owen Safford, Ryan Safford and Ashley Argent, Tyler, Bailey and Cora Cornell, Sheila Companie, Marc, Ahleah, Evertt, Luc, and Matthieu Champagne, Marietta Companie and Tom Barthelemu, Kaylee, Kurt, Michele and Keira Klein, David Companie, Jr., Richie Companie and Ferna Hillicker, Mary Delberta, and Ashley Camarrata.

Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, August 2nd from 11am-1pm, at the Lester Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta, NY, where a funeral service will take place immediately following.

Burial will take place in Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
