Our most sincere condolences to Shirley's family and her dear friends. We were fortunate to have known Shirley through the American Legion; and had the pleasure of her friendship ever since. Shirley was always fun to be around. Her company was a delight because she was genuine, considerate, and always willing to help. Rest in peace, our dear friend…You'll always be in our minds.

My sincere condolences to Shirley’s family. My family lived in the East End and Shirley was a friend of my parents. I remember her being the sweetest lady! I don’t think I ever saw her without that beautiful smile. May she rest in peace.

It is with heavy heart that I found out of Shirleys passing . I was first introduced to Shirley through her son Doug in the 90's.through Doug I learned that both Shirley and Ken enjoyed golf well that was good by me . Shirley always left me smiling or laughing about something. God bless you all and she will not be forgotten . Love ya Shirl

To all Shirley's family and friends... We send our deepest condolences and prayers to you all.  It sounds like Shirley lived her life to the fullest with loved ones all around her.  Good for her!  I grew up across the street from her in Swampscott.  One of my favorite memories was having picnics on their slopping back yard.  She can now be the guardian angel that everyone wants.  RIP Shirley and know that you will be missed.

I did not know Shirley, but I knew her mom, who I liked very much. My dad Clayton, known as Ellsworth Jenkins by that side of the family. Ivar Gustavsen was my uncle & Aunt Barbara Gustavsen (Jenkins) my dads sister. We did Plumbing for the family. I am so sorry to see the passing of family, Dean C. Jenkins

Working with Shirley for many years at The Daily Star was the start of our wonderful friendship. Shirley was certainly “one of a kind” and I’ll never forget her!!!  She’ll be tap-dancing across the sky!   Love ‘ya, Shirley!

Condolence to all your family Lori. Cousin Shirley will be missed. It was fun to send her E- Mails about what was going on in Swampscott & the other cousins. She always asked about the Boston Bruins as her dad was a long time season ticket holder. Always great to see Shirley & family when they came to Swampscott for a Summer visit at her parents home. My wife and I met Shirley and Ken Walker when we moved next door to them my wife was pregnant with our oldest daughter Amy it was our first child and Shirley was a big help to Dee we became friends and we had tons of fun Shirley was the most positive person I ever met she always was smiling and when I talked to Lorie I broke down and cried because I lost a great friend .

Shirley was a VERY SPECIAL  person whose love of life and very open and giving heart she readily shared with others. I met her as a neighbor in a next door apartment, and she and Ken ‘ adopted’ me like a member of their family. Their home was always open and their friendship and love were unquestionably given. Eventually, they became “ Grandma and Grandpa Walker” to both my children - even attending special “Grandparent Days” with them at their elementary school. 
It was in the fall of 1976 that I met Shirley ( and Ken); she has, through all the ensuing years,  been a special friend and one of the people who have played  an important part in my life.
