Walter J. Dorritie

He was born September 6, 1949 in Oneonta, the son of Daniel F. and Kathleen (McNally) Dorritie.

Walt was currently the steward for the Oneonta Elks. Prior to that, he owned and operated an Arnolds Bread route, and for a period of 17 years, he was a service representative with Abelove Linen Service.

Walt was a member of the Oneonta B.P.O.E. Lodge #1312 where he was currently their Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of of the Teamsters Union and St. Mary’s Church

He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed bowling, golf and the N.Y. Jets.

Walt is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen (Mame) Cain and her husband, J. Paul of Herkimer; his brother, Richard F. Dorritie and his wife, Sherilyn of Lake City, Florida; his best friend and soul mate, Maddy Hayes of Oneonta and one niece, two nephews and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta with the Rev. Joseph Benintende, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta from 6 to 8 PM at which time the family will be in attendance. BPOE 1312 will conduct a Lodge of Sorrow on Thursday evening at 7 PM in the funeral home.
