Alan Olmos was born 59 years ago in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in La Puente, California, with his parents Gloria and Rodolfo Olmos, and his four siblings: Jarvie, Gloria Jaye, Mark and Jayleen. He attended Flanner Elementary, Torch Middle School, and graduated from Bassett High School. He then earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, followed by a Master of Science Degree in Public Administration from the California State University, Los Angeles.
After high school, Mr. Olmos obtained the California Class C Automotive Brake Mechanic Certification which allowed him to be hired part-time by the City of Azusa while he attended college. He then worked as a Detention Services Officer for the Los Angeles County Probation Department; and almost two years later he was hired by the Los Angeles Superior Court as a Court Liaison. He worked in the Department of Civil Trial Court Operations for more than 35 years and he retired as a Courtroom Assistant Supervisor on September 13th.
Mr. Olmos was attending middle school when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior after reading a Gideon Bible brought home by his older brother Jarvie. He chose to listen to God’s calling and during his college years, he began to minister and to preach about Jesus Christ at his college campus. Also, for approximately 35 years he led a Bible Study Group held every Tuesday at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
In 1989, he obtained his Basic Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T) certification through the Los Angeles County Fire Department and used these additional skills throughout his career in government. In 2012, he became a member of the Upland C.E.R.T. where he taught Disaster Medical Operations classes as well as First Aid/CPR/AED since he was also an American Red Cross Instructor. In 2014, he became a Fire Chaplain for the City of Upland which ended in 2017 when the City’s fire protection and emergency medical response services began to be provided by the San Bernardino County Fire District; however, in 2021 he again became a Fire Chaplain, this time for the City of Montclair.
Next to God, the biggest loves of his life were his wife Micaela and daughters Naomi and Reyna. Mr. Olmos was very involved in his daughters’ lives; he volunteered as an American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) coach, as a ‘band dad’ of the Upland High School Regiment, and chaperoned dances and field trips.
Mr. Olmos attended Life Bible Fellowship Church with his family; he touched many lives with his love and relationship with God. He was the best friend that anyone could ever have because he was attentive, caring, easy to talk to, and helpful when you needed someone; and most importantly, he was always ready to pray for you. He notably ended the majority of his conversations with a prayer. Mr. Olmos was an individual who came into your life and quickly blurred the line of a close friend and became family.
On September 23rd, Mr. Olmos passed away in peace, the way he lived: loving and praising God. Through God’s promise, he is being comforted and he is no longer in pain. Alan Olmos will be always remembered as a true Servant of God because of his love, compassion, faith, service, and passion for God and knowledge of the Bible.
Draper Mortuary extends our deepest condolences to the Olmos family, friends, and to all who knew him, during this difficult time. Alan will be greatly missed.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Draper-Mortuary.com for the Olmos family.
