

Betty was born February 22, 1921, at home in Ontario, California. Her parents bought 10 acres in 1919, on the corner of Fremont and Howard Street. They farmed peaches, walnuts, citrus, a vegetable garden, and had chickens and turkeys.
Betty went to San Antonio Grammar School. Her brother Bob was born on the last day of grammar school. June 4, 1931. Betty attended Vina Danks Junior High School, graduated from Chaffey Union High School in 1938, and Chaffey Junior College in 1940. Her church affiliation was Church of the Brethren.
She soon went to work doing secretarial work. Her first job was in Upland at Stewart Citrus Association, then Mountain View Fruit Association and Upland Citrus Association is where she met her husband, Gilbert Nehrig.
They got married on September 21, 1946. Betty then became a homemaker enjoying cooking, baking, sewing, canning, and household duties. Her husband worked for Sunkist as a Foreman at Gavilan Citrus Association in Arlington, California (near Riverside). They built their home in 1953 on an acre and half a part of the property where she was born. Their church affiliation at this time in their lives was Trinity Lutheran Church in Montclair
Their first son, John, was born November 13, 1948. Their second son, Fred, was born July 8, 1953.
In 1968 Betty moved to Fillmore, California outside of town not far from Piru. Her husband was the manager of Piru Citrus Association and Ojai-Tapo. After her husband passed away in May 1982, she moved back to Ontario to take care of her mother who passed away in 1987.
In 1985, Betty became involved in planning quarterly luncheons for the Chaffey High School class of '38. It started with just the girls and then the fellows wanted to be included. They had many good times at their luncheons and reunions. Their last meeting, number 70, was in 2008. At the 50th reunion in 1988, Betty met Art a classmate. They renewed their friendship and had a nice relationship for several years.
Betty started golfing at Elkins Golf Course in Fillmore 1970. When she moved back to Ontario, she signed up with the Claremont Women's Golf Club in 1991 and later joined Upland Hills in 2006. She really enjoyed golfing. Having joined the clubs, Betty made a lot of wonderful friends.
Betty is survived by her two sons John and Fred, grandson Cole and his wife Hannah, nephew Steve Gage, and daughters-in-law Jan and Michelle. As well as, Michelle's son, Chad, his wife Cassie, and their two children Addie and Gage.
