Daniel was the beloved son of Roseanna Ruiz, the cherished brother of Rosalinda Ruiz (Louis Wischnewsky) and Miguel Ruiz, the adored grandson of Linda Montoya, the treasured nephew of Marianna Delgado (Frank, his godfather) and Paul Montoya, Jr., and the adored cousin of Vanessa Rothenhoefer (Stephen), Noah Valdez (Christtiam), Melissa Valdez (Frankie), and Gabriel Delgado. Daniel is survived by numerous additional relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aureliano S. Ruiz, and his grandparents, Aureliano M. and María de Jesús Ruiz and Paul Montoya, Sr.
Daniel grew up in Ontario, California, and attended Mariposa Elementary School and St. George Catholic School, and he graduated from Damien High School in 1991. After attending Mt. San Antonio Community College, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Fullerton.
A lifelong Roman Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. George Churches, Ontario; St. Margaret Mary, Chino; and St. Thomas the Apostle, Riverside.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in the Cursillo Movement, where he presented talks at Cursillo retreats and played the maracas during musical performances. Daniel had a deep-seated faith and was well-versed in the Bible. He also volunteered as a lector at St. Margaret Mary; he always demonstrated positive Christian values as life lessons for others.
Daniel, afflicted with Myotonic Dystrophy, was a kind and generous person who always enjoyed long conversations about a wide variety of subjects, including science fiction (Star Wars and Star Trek were special favorites), religion, and family topics, and he was a social person who had a great sense of humor. He liked dance and music, and his acceptance of others was one rooted in joy and wonder. He never allowed his condition to stop him from earning a college degree and from participating in life.
He is deeply missed.
