On the afternoon of December 2, 2025, Joan Garcia, 74, wrapped herself in the arms of her Lord and Savior and passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven. She was surrounded by the love of her family in her home during this sacred moment—just as she wished.
Joan was born in April 1951 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Melda and Shelby Riddle. At the age of eight, she moved to Chino, California, where she discovered her love of Mexican food and built the life she cherished. Chino became her home, where she doted on her husband, children, and grandson—and was happily spoiled with the delicious meals lovingly shared by her in-laws, whom she considered her own family.
Joan met the love of her life, Tony, in 1970 at Buffums Department Store. They were united in marriage in 1974 and shared 51 years of unwavering devotion through sickness and health. Together they raised three children—Tammy, Ryan, and JP—pouring their whole hearts into their family. Joan was known for her selflessness; not a day went by when her children didn’t feel deeply loved, fiercely protected, and unconditionally supported.
If you asked Joan, the best years of her life began with the birth of her grandson, Gabriel. Gabe was the apple of her eye, endlessly spoiled with treats from Grandma and countless foot massages.
Joan’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved traveling with her husband, children, and grandchild, and equally treasured trips with her sisters and brother. She also found purpose in giving to others, especially through her contributions to the House of Ruth and the Chino Neighborhood House.
In addition to being welcomed into the presence of Jesus, Joan was surely greeted by her beloved mother and brother, Sonny, whom she has missed dearly, along with loved ones who entered eternal life before her. She is survived by many who will cherish her memory including her sisters Jan (Tom) and Nita (Bob), brother-and-sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
