

Joe Canchola, 96, was born January 10, 1913 in Clayborn, Texas. He went to heaven on November 9, 2009 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Fontana, California. He was the first of five children: Joe, Catalina, Basilia, Jess and Domingo born to Daniel & Faustina Canchola, all deceased.After his father died in 1922 Joe moved to Ontario, California with his mother, siblings and grandparents. In 1925, after his mother died, he dropped out of school at the age of 13 to support his brother and sister.Being mechanically inclined, he found work repairing farm equipment and autos and as a result he helped in the construction of Kaiser Steel Mill in Fontana. Joe continued working as a Mechanical Millwright repairing a variety of steel processing equipment and retired in 1976 after 33 years of service.In 1937, Joe married Carmen Aguilar of Chino, California and started a family in Ontario, California. Together they had four children: Joe Danny Canchola (Theresa), Alice Vargas (Ernie), Ruben Canchola (Rachel) and David Canchola (Laura). They had nine grandchildren: Thomas Canchola, Cathleen Pantess, Richard Vargas, John Vargas, Rebecca Bogardus, Ruben Canchola, Joseph Canchola, Christina Williams, Michelle Canchola and fifteen great-grandchildren.In 1949, Joe and his wife Carmen bought a ranch in Chino where they raised their family. Joe enjoyed working on the ranch growing fruits and vegetables and taking care of various farm animals which he raised for food.Joe enjoyed traveling and often took his family to visit relatives in California, Louisiana, and Mexico. Joe also enjoyed taking family outings camping, to the beach and to the mountains. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to fish and fix their cars. Joe and Carmen attended all of their children's and grand children's ball games and were avid Dodger fans. Joe has missed his wife Carmen, very much, since her passing in 2001.Draper mortuary in Ontario is in charge of the funeral arrangements and will have a viewing on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at the funeral chapel from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 16, 2009 with a 10:00 a.m. mass to be celebrated at St Margret Marys Catholic Church in Chino, internment will be at Bellevue Memorial Cemetery following the services.
