Lawrence Jane Penn was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 23, 1942, to Anne Isabelle Womble and Lawrence Robert Penn. During Larri’s formative years, Anne married Alfred Dockery McLaughlin II, and they relocated the family to Los Angeles, California. Her early education started at Miraculous Medal Catholic School in Greensboro, North Carolina, and she graduated from St. Agnes High School in Los Angeles, California.
Larri had a keen interest in nature and loved animals, which led her to work at the Los Angeles Zoo while studying History at Los Angeles City College. She completed her bachelor’s degree in History at California State University Los Angeles.
After dedicating over 20 years of her professional life to the United States Postal Service, Larri retired and seriously pursued her passion for photography. Her photos of natural landscapes were breathtaking, but even more, her work as a wedding and special event photographer captured the love, beauty, and fun of those special days. From Los Angeles to the Inland Empire, Larri shared all of her gifts.
When Larri moved to the Inland Empire in 1990, she became heavily involved in the community around her, helping all that she could. Larri’s commitment to serving her community was great, and throughout her life, she found ways to serve the communities of San Dimas, Pomona, and Rancho Cucamonga. To this day, the people whose lives she touched remember “Miss Larri” fondly.
Larri was preceded in death by her birth Father, Lawrence Robert Penn, her Mother Anne Isabelle Womble, Stepfather, Alfred McLaughlin, II, and Brother, Alfred McLaughlin III. Left to cherish her memory are her Brother, Daniel Penn (Joyce); Sister, Taishin McLaughlin; Niece, Alyce McLaughlin-Lamar (Kendall); and Nephew, Alfred McLaughlin IV (Angela). Larri will be missed by a host of Cousins, Family Co-workers, Friends, paws and claws that loved her dearly.
