Megan Hope Higgins, a 15 year old Chino resident, suffered cardiac arrest suddenly at home, on December 27, 2013. Police and firefighters arrived and revived her but despite their heroic efforts and later those of doctors and nurses at CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County) she was not able to be saved. Megan was born on August 11, 1998 and had lived her entire life in Chino and Chino Hills. She fought for life in the NICU and later again after open heart surgery, winning both times, and beating the odds the doctors gave her. She is survived by her parents, Brent and Linda Higgins, her grandparents Garland and Patricia Higgins, and her siblings, Robert Higgins of San Bernardino, Ashley Higgins of Chino, and Jordan Higgins of Chino. Megan attended Hope School in Rancho Cucamonga, and was a testament to the fact that with the right educational options, children with severe handicaps can indeed learn and improve their opportunities and enjoyment in life. Megan enjoyed dance, gymnastics, and swimming, but more than anything she loved school and all of the her friends and the staff at Hope who loved her and knew that she could do more and be more every day. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11 am at the First Christian Church, 1751 Park Ave., Pomona, CA. and officiated by Rev. Dr. Julie Roberts-Fronk. Draper’s Mortuary, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, is handling the arrangements, 909-986-1131. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to: Hope, Inc., (909)-948-3536 10777 Civic Center Drive. Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730 and/or to Educate. Advocate. PO Box 1011 Guasti, CA 91743 in Megan’s memory.
