Rose Marie “Cookie” Jernigan passed away peacefully with her family beside her on January 31, 2021, at 82 years of age. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, Fletcher Linwood Jernigan, her brother John “Jack” Corrigan, her sister Kathleen Pysz and brother-in-law Walter “Butch” Pysz. Cookie was an accomplished Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Practitioner for over 30 years, working at Riverside General Hospital and Kaiser Permanente in Fontana during her career. She was a loving wife, mother, grand-mother, great- grandmother, mentor and friend. She was a compassionate person that was eager to share with everyone she encountered. Originally from Holyoke, MA, she traveled the world as a military wife living in Florida, Alaska, New Hampshire, Spain, New York and Hawaii; finally settling in Moreno Valley with her family, in 1972. She thoroughly enjoyed going to the local casinos with her husband and brother-in-law and continued to do so after their passing with (them in spirit), her friends, family and quite often on her own. A consummate lover of dogs, she was constantly surrounded by her four legged “herd.” Although a person small in stature, she was nonetheless an imposing person who never failed to brighten a room. She will be dearly missed by more people than even she would have realized.
