Samuel Martin Arroyo, born April 30, 1948 in Upland, California died peacefully at his home in Rancho Cucamonga, California on Sunday, April 25, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was 72. He was a 1966 graduate of Chaffey High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972 with the rank of Sergeant. He was an Aero Medical Specialist and was assigned to Mountain Home AFB in Idaho.
After working for Frito-Lay and a tow truck company, he began working for the California Youth Authority in 1980 as a Group Supervisor. He retired as a Correctional Officer in December 2006 after 26 years of service at Heman G. Stark Youth Correctional Facility.
Sam loved NASCAR racing, MLB (Angels), and NFL (Raiders). He enjoyed going to local high school football games after retirement. His greatest joy was participating in local Classic Car Shows where he won numerous awards for showing his 1970 SS Chevelle.
He is survived by his wife Sharon; his two step-sons Cameron Erickson and Patrick Erickson of San Diego, CA; his step-daughter Karalee Erickson and her husband Howard Powell of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; his granddaughter Rianna McEntire and great-grandson Jace Marquez of Rancho Cucamonga, CA. He is also survived by his brother Michael Arroyo (Yolanda) and sisters Emily Amaya (Jimmy) and Christella Stewart (Stan); 4 nieces, 2 nephews and many, many cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents Emidio G. and Christine L. Arroyo.
A visitation for Samuel will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Draper Mortuary, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 2713 S. Grove Avenue, Ontario, CA 91761. A committal service will occur Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA 92518. A burial will occur at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, California 92518-2740. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sam’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
