Sam is survived by his devoted wife Lynda, his daughters Stephanie (Richard) Bare, Sara Marquez, his stepchildren, Michael Higgins and Lisa (Paul) Stigers. He also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Daniel Bare and Connor Ooms.
He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Alfonso and Margaret (Salsameda) Marquez, his brother Louie, sister Lydia, and two little dogs, Jake and Taffy.
Sam was born October 22, 1946 at Belvedere Hospital in Los Angeles, California and raised in Norwalk, California in a small, loving home surrounded by his parents, sister, and four brothers.
Sam is a proud Marine Corp veteran, having served from 1963-1967 in the Vietnam War. He was wounded during his service and received commendations for his dedication, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marine Corp never left him. Sam was stationed at Marine Air Base Squadron 36, Ky Ha, Chu Lai, Vietnam, where he served as a helicopter gunner and worked in the Headquarters Branch.
When Sam returned from Vietnam, he enrolled at Cerritos College where he studied accounting, and he was awarded Sophomore Man of the Year and honored for his academic and activity achievements. He served as the Vice President of the Veterans Club and was elected to the Student Senate.
Over the years he found peace and joy, and settled into a beautiful life with his love, Lynda. Living in Rancho Cucamonga, Sam and Lynda raised children and a few little pups, filled their home with laughter and love, flower gardens, war movies, and afternoon coffee and snacks.
He leaves a legacy of kindness and friendship, positivity and optimism, devotion, service, honor, and duty.
Funeral Services will be forthcoming. Loved ones will be notified when a service is scheduled. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Draper-Mortuary.com for the Marquez family.
