Sandra Dee & Darrell Eugene Tibbs

Born Sandra Dee Burgett on February 23, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Clarence and Dorothy Burgett. Sandy grew up in Minnesota with her two younger brothers Mike and Tim. She graduated from Richfield High in 1966 and proceeded to move to Washington State to live with her aunt and uncle, Margaret and Bob Dowd, where she attended Green River Community College.

Born Darrell Eugene Tibbs on August 21, 1948 in Worland, Wyoming to Eugene and Clarice Tibbs. Darrell grew up in Wyoming and Oklahoma with his younger sister Joyce. Darrell moved with his family to Washington State when he was in high school where he graduated from Kent Meridian High in 1966. After high school he attended Green River Community College.

Darrell and Sandy met at Green River Community College through Darrell’s Aunt Ruth. Sandy and Ruth had become friends at school and they were going to take roller skating as a course for college. Since the facility was off the campus, Aunt Ruth had asked Sandy if her nephew, Darrell, could have a ride to the roller rink. This is how they met. They both graduated from Green River Community College with Associates Degrees in 1968. They were later married on July 20, 1968 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sandy was 20 and Darrell was 19. Shortly after Darrell joined the United States Navy and they moved 13 times in the first 12 years of their marriage. In January of 1971, while stationed in Idaho, they had their first child James. Exactly two and half years later, while stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, they had the second of their two children Suzanne. While in the military Darrell earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University. After proudly serving 11 years Darrell was honorably discharged from the Navy in Illinois. In 1985 Darrell and Sandy made their last move and settled in Ontario, California. In 1993 and 1996 they welcomed their two grandchildren Andrew and Aubrey, respectively.

Darrell passed away on May 29, 2001.

Sandy passed away on April 6, 2012.
