Sylvia Rita Alonzo

Sylvia Rita Alonzo, 85, of Rancho Cucamonga, California, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024. Born in 1939 to Ramon and Louise Gutierrez, Sylvia was a proud native of the Alta Loma area, where she attended Alta Loma Elementary and Junior High, and was part of the first graduating class of Upland High School.

At the young age of 19, Sylvia married her beloved husband, Richard Alonzo, on February 7, 1958. Together, they built a beautiful family, adopting their first child, Cynthia Diane, and then welcoming Catherine Louise shortly thereafter. Five years later, Rick Raymond Alonzo was born, completing their family.

Sylvia was a dedicated homemaker who found joy in caring for her family and also babysitting children in the neighborhood to provide extra spending money. A true sports fanatic, she could often be found cheering on her grandchildren in their various activities or rooting for her beloved Los Angeles Dodgers. An active member of Guasti d'Asti Church, she also found community and purpose through participation in a Christian women’s group.

A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Sylvia enjoyed shopping at local farmers markets, getting her hair done, and taking road trips to find the perfect Fresno grapes. She had a fondness for QVC shopping, indulging her collection of shoes, and staying connected by scrolling through social media.

Sylvia leaves behind her loving children, Cynthia and her husband Tony Ponce, Catherine, and Ricky with his wife Mia. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Francesca and her husband Scott, and their children, James and Ethan; Sabrina; Rianna; Jessica and her husband David; Victoria; Andrew; and Zoe.

Known to her family as Grammy, GG, and Mom, Sylvia will be remembered for her loving spirit, her passion for family and food, and her unwavering support of those she cherished. The legacy of her children and grandchildren will ensure that her memory lives on in their hearts and lives.

A visitation for Sylvia will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Draper Mortuary, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. A religious ceremony will occur Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. A funeral service will occur Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 811 North Mountain Ave, Ontario, CA 91762. A committal service will occur Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Bellevue Memorial Park, 1240 W G St, Ontario, CA 91762.
