My mother lost her mom at birth and I cannot imagine what my life would be like if I did not have my mother.  As I look back at life and realize how more things made sense as to how my mother accomplished her day to day life you see my mom was very unique, special, and rare.
As a wife and mother she dedicated her life to us without expecting anything in return.  We have many fond memories of her caring for us throughout our young lives.  The sound of the percolator and smell of coffee, squeaking of the cutting board when my mom was rolling tortillas, paper sack lunches, clean ironed clothes, and a clean home.  My mom did this day after day without hesitation and was always there for us. During my childhood and growing up she never once said I am going out with my friends her friends were my brothers, dad, sisters, and I.  She never worked outside the house, never drove or had a drivers license, my dad said if she needed to go anywhere he would take her because he was afraid she we never be home if she drove.  If I had to describe my mom in one word it would be "Virtuous" which is defined as having inner beauty, service to others, hospitable, generous, kind, finishes tasks, uses money and time wisely, has faith, is pure and receptive, uses reason to temper actions, respects her parents and husband, and is a loving mother.  Being virtuous is a life time commitment that my mom accomplished.  My mother was a constant being in our lives and as we grew older and started our own families she would give advice and sometimes I would not like the advice she gave.  I would tell myself that when I was a mother I would do things different and as time went on I did change some ideas, but I can tell you I am just like her regardless.  I know there were times that a disagreement kept me away from my mother and I am so sorry for that, but at that time I needed to calm myself and reflect on the advice she gave me. Family was everything to her and when the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along she loved each one unconditionally.
After my dad passed away it was really hard for mom because she was alone at the home her and my dad built memories around and my dad was always at her side taking care of her. My sisters, brothers, and I were living our lives and would visit her, take her out to eat, shop, or go to the state-line. There were times when some of us would live with her but after she had surgery on her toe we started seeing something different about our mom. We found out she had dementia and had lost her short term memory and she was unable to walk on her own. My siblings and I spent as much time as we could with her telling her stories about our family and just having fun the last year and a half that she resided at Pacific Senior Living in Chino.  My moms favorite thing in life was going to the state line at Whiskey Pete's which brought back happy memories of her and my dad. My mom knew she was dying and she was ready to go, but I was not ready I selfishly wanted her to stay even though I knew it was time.  I will miss her beautiful smile and embrace but she is in heaven now with my dad. I love you mama.

           "DANCING WITH GOD"

When meditating on the word "Guidance," I kept seeing "dance" at the end of the word.  I remember reading that doing God's will is a lot like dancing.  When two people try to lead, nothing feels right.  The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is quite uncomfortable and jerky.  When one person realizes that and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music.  One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or pressing lightly in one direction or another.  Two become one body, moving beautifully.  Dancing takes surrender, willingness and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.  My eyes drew back to the word 'Guidance."  When I saw "G," I thought of God, followed by "u" and "I" dance." God, you and I dance.                              

  " MOM AND DAD DANCING WITH GOD"

My name is Tony Trebino, Gloria's husband, Virginia Gutierrez's son-in-law. We will miss her and will live on the memories of her. My greatest memory of my mother-in-law will always be the day I stood beside her bed and asked her if she loves me and she did not say anything. I then said, "that's OK, I love you". Shortly after, she opened her eyes and said, OK. I love you, too, Tony". That will live in my heart the rest of my life as the greatest memory of my suegra. 

It is written in one of the Commandments: "Thou shall honor thy Father and Mother". It is clear that Gloria, Ernestina, Barbara, Jeannie, and Manuel, r. have honored the Commandment by their love for their parents and each other as they stand united.

We would like to thank everyone for coming to mourn and celebrate the passing of our mother, Virginia Gutierrez. I personally want to thank my husband and family for all their love and support for mom, for me, and for each other. Thank you, Father, God, for such a wonderful and loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Thank you to our cousin, Arthur Gutierrez, for helping with the hall, her doctors, and to the staff and care providers at Pacifica, where she resided for the past 14 months. A special thanks to Draper Mortuary, St. Madeleines, and Holy Cross Cemetery for the arrangements.

Mom was born on August 17, 1931 in Upland, California. She grew up there and went to school there. Mom met our dad, Manuel Gutierrez, in the late 1940's at a dance. She said that dad was a really good dancer and that all the girls wanted to dance with him, but dad would tell them "no, I'm with Virginia". That's when it all began. They were married on September 16, 1950 and went on together to have five daughters, two sons, 19 grandkids, and 33 great-grandkids.

She devoted herself to her family as a housewife and homemaker. She gave her undivided time to our brother, Manuel, Jr., who has a hearing disability and was still able to carry on as a loving and nurturing mom to all of us.

She was a great cook. I remember, with great fondness, her mouth-watering butter tortillas, three-course meals, beans and rice. And, we can't forget her oatmeal cookies, pumpkin pies and cakes. Oh, "those were the days". Speaking of pumpkin pies, I remember years back when my sisters, brothers and I were still living at home for Thanksgiving. Mom decided we were going to make the pies and we did. We made 17 pumpkin pies (enough for two each). We finished all the pies.

Not only was she our mother, she was our strength, our teacher, our listener, our problem solver. She was so amazing. Though she may have been petite and small-framed, you couldn't get anything past her. She had a saying: "No Te Dejas Mija". She always said that to me when I talked to her about a troublesome situation or problem. She had an unbelievable sense of humor.

She was diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimers, along with other health issues in 2012. Yet her sense of humor never left her and she continued to go to Las Vegas and nearby casinos.

Mom missed dad and longed to be with him. She said that she dreamed about dad and that he told her he was going to take her somewhere. 

Her dreams and her prayers were answered and our Father, God has taken her home; a home where we will all meet again. 

We are blessed to have had your love. You will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

ALWAYS LOVING YOU, MOM

Love you Grandma. I've been reflecting a lot on all the memories. From your great taste in shoes to your unwavering love for Grandpa and all the family.
 I picture you sitting with grandpa and enjoying a morning cup of coffee together just like you did in the past. 
 I miss and love you.

I'm sad that you're gone but I am also glad that you and grandpa are together again along with our other family members. You all are greatly missed. I love you and you will always be in my heart!

Mama, I wasn't ready to let you go I miss you so much.  I know you are happy with daddy.  I love you.
