Born August 5, 1931, in Newark, Ohio, she was the beloved only child of Leland C. Korb and Ethel L. Jackson.
A graduate of Newark Senior High School, Betty continued her studies at Stephens College before completing her degree in Elementary Education at Ohio Wesleyan University, followed by graduate work at both Akron University and The Ohio State University. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Betty taught 20 years in the Mansfield City Schools system. Upon retirement, she tutored both children and adults in reading. As a member of First Congregational Church, she served at various times as a Deacon, Deaconess, and member of the Stephen Ministry prayer fellowship. She also attended Little Washington Congregational Church.
Betty was a sustaining member of the Junior League of South Bend, Indiana; past Regent of the Jared Mansfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and a member of the Richland County Retired Teachers Association.
Betty’s many loves filled her retirement day, including entertaining with family and friends, antique dealing while stocking booths at both Pumpkin Hollow and Carousel Antiques, reading, genealogy, Bridge playing, volunteering at the VA, gardening and tending to her feathered friends.
Betty is survived by her younger son, John L. (Barbara) Barker; grandson, Cody S. (Lisa) Barker and their son, Everett; and granddaughter, Jessica P. Barker and her children, Jayce, Tylen and Kaycie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Granville P. Barker in 1994; husband, Stanley F. Korol in 2012, whom she married in 1998; and by her elder son, Robert G. Barker in 2022.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00 am on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield. The memorial service conducted by Pastor Brad Bunn will immediately follow at 11:00 am. Private family graveside services will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Congregational Church, Little Washington Congregational Church or a charity of one’s choice.
