He was born October 13, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Elmer Bruce and Katie Lorean (Green) Harrill. Billy was a veteran of the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and chose his career in education because he loved working with kids. He was a math and physics teacher at Northmor High School and coached multiple sports over his tenure. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing that love with his students. He was a very handy carpenter, remodeled two homes from top to bottom and enjoyed creating various crafts. Billy enjoyed spending a relaxing day visiting flea markets and antiquing.
He is survived by two children, Julie (Kevin) Cumbie and Jeff Harrill; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Lara) Cumbie, Jessica (Ethan) Groce, Katie Cumbie and Talina Harrill; two great-grandchildren, Camdyn Harrill and Asher Cumbie; one great-great grandchild, William Harrill; four stepchildren, Earnie (Cherie McGraw) Dyer, Randy (Janet) Dyer, Patricia (Michael) Whitlatch and Teresa Leiler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Amos Harrill; second wife, Shirlene Lowe; and a sister and brother-in law, Helen and Virgil Webb.
The family welcomes friends to visit from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Additional calling hours will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, 4650 Hwy 411, Madisonville, TN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm with an additional hour of calling prior. He will be laid to rest in Chestua Campground Cemetery in Madisonville, Tennessee with military honors.
