Born May 22, 1928, in Ault, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Laura (Porter) and Jack Mabry. He grew up on the family farm, leaving at age 15 to find work in Ohio. He worked at Westinghouse Corp. retiring after 40 years. Charles was a bit stubborn at times and never received a gift that he didn’t return in kind. In his free time, he enjoyed yardwork, gardening, attending church and watching the Cleveland Indians. Charles’ life centered on Christ and he was a member of Freedom Ridge Church serving a lay pastor for many years.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Custodio of Columbus and Karen (Dale) Ensminger of Ontario; two sons, Charles (Jane) Mabry of Venice, FL, and Ted Mabry of Mifflin; six grandchildren, Jeremy Borden, Vanessa O’Dee, Dustin Ensminger, Bethany Julian, Noah Mabry, and Nikole Ringer; eight great-grandchildren, Devin, Emily, Payton, Molly, Avieana, Carter, Cooper, and Isla; and three nieces and nephews, Louise, Ron and Dennis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Geraldine “Jerri” Payton Mabry; granddaughter, Carol Ann Harris; and two brothers, Alvin and Rolland Mabry.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Wappner Funeral Directors and Crematory-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Russell Morton officiating. He will be laid to rest in Clay Cemetery, Olive Hill, Kentucky, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Ridge Church, 2200 Bedford Boulevard, Ontario, Ohio.
