A graduate of Madison High School in 1965, Gordon went on to graduate from Ohio University in 1969 and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. For three years he was a high school history teacher, but when he found out his wife Jackie made more money than he did, he decided to obtain a second job as a bartender. He eventually became an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance where he retired after 40 successful years. During his time with Allstate Gordon won many trips and was able to travel all over the world, and in 1999 he won a Harley Davidson Fatboy in a nationwide motorcycle insurance contest. Although he never rode the motorcycle because they “were too dangerous” he was extremely proud to have received such an honor.
Gordon belonged to many clubs and was a lifetime member of The Elks and Sons of Herman. He was a member of the Baku Grotto where he served as Monarch in 2006, and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #35 where he was 32nd degree Mason.
Gordon loved the game of golf and most sunny days could be found out on the course. Gordon was on the golf team in high school and was a State Qualifier in 1964. After many years on the course, hip and knee replacements led him to find a new hobby. He took up bridge in 2015 and in 2020 he reached the milestone of Life Master.
A loving father and grandpa, he is survived by his daughters Darci Thompson (Daniel) and Kristan Moxley (Ryan Bisson), grandson Chance Moxley, and his sister, Virginia “Ginger” Kreis (Jim).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jaqueline “Jackie” Moxley (Slaybaugh) with whom he shared over 50 wonderful years.
