Born September 18, 1942, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, she was one of ten children of the late Clyde and Ella Gladys (Burchett) P’Simer and graduated from Olive Hill High School in 1960. Katie worked as a substitute nurse at Ontario Elementary School and substitute teacher at Mansfield Senior High School. She also worked as a home health aide for several years. She worked in the library at MANCI and the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library. Katie enjoyed sewing, crafting and reading in her free time.
She is survived by three children, Brian (Sandy) Schaffer of Mt. Gilead, Robert (Elizabeth) Schaffer of Mansfield and Kimberly Schaffer of Warrensburg, NY; three grandchildren, Garrett Schaffer, Christine Burrows and Pierce Byrne; a brother, Gayle P’Simer; three sisters, Gladys Gessel, Wanda Benzing and Brenda Kahl; two brothers-in-law, Jim Gillam and Harold Satterwhite; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Geneva (Judd) Satterwhite, Loveda Satterwhite, Lodena (Forrest) McCleese, Mary Opal Gillam and Nancy (Benton) Kilgallin; four brothers-in-law, Jay Benzing, Albert Maynard, Hubert Buckner and Lanneau Jordan; and a sister-in-law, Lois P’Simer.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Additional visitation will be held at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Terry Dean will follow at 12:00 p.m. Katie will be laid to rest in P’Simer Cemetery, Olive Hill, Kentucky.
