Richard Arthur Schuffert, 80, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home following a long illness with his wife by his side. He was born November 13, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Robert and Regina Schuffert.
Richard was the beloved husband of 57 years to his wife, Linda Yost Schuffert, and the proud father of Julie Ball and her husband, Derek Ball. He cherished his role as a grandfather to his adored granddaughter, Nora Ball, and was a true companion to his favorite puppies, Luna and Nova.
Richard graduated from Perry High School in 1962. A proud veteran, Richard served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1967, specializing in medical technology. He met and courted Linda Yost while stationed at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton. Following his service, he earned his degree in Chemistry from Wright State University. For 35 years, Richard worked at Mansfield General Hospital/MedCentral Health System as Director of the Laboratory, Safety, and Occupational Health, where he dedicated himself to the health and well-being of the community.
Richard had a deep love for vacationing on Florida’s gulf coast, especially Madeira Beach, a place that held special memories since his honeymoon there with Linda. They shared a wonderful life together. He also enjoyed watching movies, listening to Motown music, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Above all, Richard was the family’s biggest supporter, offering the “worldly knowledge” and guidance in how to navigate life’s ups and downs. His love and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, sister-in-law, Jo Yost and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Karl Yost.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Private burial will take place in the family plot at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery, Beavercreek, OH.
