Art was originally from Cowlesville, NY, attended Attica Central schools, and at age 17 joined the U.S. Army. He served two years and was honorably discharged because of medical reasons. Art and Sally married March 24, 1945 and returned to Cowlesville to raise their family. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Buffalo, NY as a Postal Clerk and retired after 30 years. They moved to Kove Estates in Osteen, Florida in 1978. He and Sally developed good friendships and enjoyed the many activities offered by the community. Art especially took pleasure in golfing on leagues and with his son and grandsons. For the last three years he was a resident at Horizon Bay in Orange City, Florida, an assisted living facility. He met new friends and appreciated the caring attention from the nursing, housekeeping, and management staff there.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to music and humming along, traveling both by car and on cruise vacations, acquiring collectibles, and playing cards. He particularly loved painting which he pursued as a hobby for many years. Many of his art pieces are displayed in the homes of his family. He had an infectious smile, kind heart and flirtatious nature. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A Memorial/Celebration service will be held Saturday, May 10, 1:30 PM at Horizon Bay, 500 Grand Plaza Drive, Orange City, FL, after which he will be privately interred at Deltona Memorial Gardens in Orange City. Flowers are graciously declined but donations may be made to Hospice.
