As a young woman, she attended Michigan State College in East Lansing, Michigan, which is now Michigan State University. She earned her Associate of Arts degree in Art. She worked in the Horticulture department as a secretary, where she met her future husband, Bill, who was a graduate assistant. She then later worked at a radio station in East Lansing, Michigan.
One day while eating at a diner, Bill happened to walk in. He recognized Beverly and they ate lunch together. This happened about a year after she had first met him at the college. They dated for a year and were married on June 14, 1952 at her sister’s house in Michigan.
They moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where her 3 children were born, and they lived there until 1968. They then moved back to Lansing, Michigan and lived there until 1975. After that, they moved to Gainesville, Florida and lived there until 2002. Finally, they moved to Deltona, then later to Sanford.
Beverly liked to sew, cook, read, shop and spend time with her family. She was generous and helpful to others. She especially enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family. Many times she would go shopping and not buy anything, but just enjoyed looking. She would buy things for her family, if she knew they needed something, and surprise them with it. She was an excellent typist and would type her daughter’s school papers throughout high school and college. She was also great at drawing and would sometimes “doodle” beautiful pictures while on the phone. She liked to keep up with and discuss current events in the news. She always enjoyed flowers and her favorite was red roses.
Beverly especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren. They brought her much joy. Beverly was an independent person and always had much energy, which she generously used to be helpful and kind to many others during her life.
