Doris Madeline Stewart Elliott was born on June 26, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Wallace and Mary Stewart. She was one of ten children. Doris is also lovingly known by her nickname, Podie, given to her by a younger sister who could not pronounce "Doris."
Doris married her neighborhood friend, Sam, in the fall of 1954, and she stood by his side for over fifty-seven years until Sam's passing. She was a Navy Chief's wife, and together, they had three sons, Tom, Lou and Ernie.
For many years, Doris was a "pink lady" volunteering at the Central Florida Regional Hospital. She loved serving others. She loved to bake and generously gave those delicious goodies to others. She also donated to bake sales for fundraisers at the hospital… her baked goods were always a hit and she received "orders" each year.
Doris also loved sewing, needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Many afghans and other handmade items are enjoyed by family and friends. She never forgot birthdays and special occasions of her family and
friends. Whatever she made, it was always with a specific person in mind. Her hands were always busy lovingly making something for someone.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, and eight of her siblings: Grace, Lois, Joyce, Peggy, Shirley, Janet, Jim, and Ross. She is survived by her sons and their spouses: Thomas and Kathleen Elliott; Louis and Nancy Elliott; Ernest and Jana Elliott; her grandchildren and their spouses: Alexandra and Tim Whitson, Brittany and Harrison Wirth, Caitlan and Craig Johnson, Kelly Elliott, Megan Elliott, and Nicholas Elliott; Melina and David Brannon, II; and Denise and Benjamin Stanaland; her great-grandchildren: Cole Louis Whitson, Elliott Anne Wirth, Joshua and Julia Brannon, Abigail, Samantha, and Bethany Stanaland; her sister, Donna Stewart, many nieces and nephews, and many good friends and
neighbors.
