

Deacon Gilberto Torres Maya, 85, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. He is survived by his children Carmen, Gilbert, Yolanda and Peter, his grandchildren Dawnmarie, Jason, Christopher, Stephanie, David Michael, Gregory, Heather, Diana and Brandon and all his beautiful great grandchildren.
Gilberto was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. He moved to New York City when he was a young teenager and graduated from Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. He was ordained as Deacon in New York City in 1987 and since then has dedicated his life in serving God, the church and community. He was blessed with many great friends who were like family and he and his wife, Carmen, enjoyed spending time with them playing dominoes, eating, singing and attending religious events. Gilberto’s best qualities were always being happy, smiling, telling jokes, and being the life of the party.
Gilberto worked many years in the manufacturing industry and retired from his last role as a janitor for Deltona High School. During this earlier career in manufacturing, he represented the workers as a union delegate.
His wife, Carmen, was the love his life and they were married for over 50 years. He was a great role model for his children and was a wonderful grandfather. His family is at peace knowing that he has joined his wife and son, John, in heaven. He will always be loved and forever missed.
Funeral arrangements will be held at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home & Gardens at 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, Florida on Monday, October 31. Visitation will start at 9 am until 11 am. Mass will be held at the funeral home at 11 am and burial service will start approximately 12:15 pm, following the mass.
