Orange City, FL. Grimilda Martinez, 89, died Wednesday Sept 30, 2015 at the John Knox Majestic Oaks Assisted Living facility with her loving family by her bedside. Grimilda was born on December 24, 1925 in Naranjito, Puerto Rico, daughter of Emilio Cruz Mills and Maria Eugenia Cruz Mills, both of Naranjito Puerto Rico. She was the last survivor of eleven children from that union. With her entrepreneurial spirit she left the island bound for New York City where she successfully owned and operated two convenient stores on the Upper West Side. Fun loving and adventurous, she found joy traveling around the world. Ahead of her time, she ventured out on her own to see it- visiting places like Europe and Africa. Trips that forever affected the way she saw the world. In her later years, she enjoyed arts and crafts, knitting, Bingo nights, bragging about her two sons, listening to music of all genres and was an avid dancer in her heyday.
Grimilda is survived by two sons: Oscar and Elizabeth Davila of Orange City, FL and Orlando Davila of Cold Springs, NY. Both sons were New York City Fire Fighters, a fact that Grimilda took great pride in. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Christopher Davila of New York, NY; Marco Davila of Brooklyn, NY; Orlando Davila Jr. of Bronx, NY; Katiria Davila of Bronx, NY; John Isaac Davila of Orange City, FL; Gabriel Arroyo, Daniel Arroyo, Ezekial Arroyo and Victoria Arroyo all of Deltona, FL. She was great grandmother to five children; Daniel Davila of New York, NY; Leonardo Davila of Bronx, NY; Arianna Davila of New York, NY, Jaden Arroyo and Brandon Arroyo both of Deltona, FL
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Grimilda's name to the charity of your choosing.
