Herman Edward Carrero, 85, of Deltona, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, December 14, 2025. He was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on January 25, 1940. Herman graduated from New York Printing High School and received a Bachelors in Theology from the Seventh-Day Adventist school Columbia Union College in Tacoma Park, Maryland in 1973 and a Doctor of Naturopathy degree from International University in Los Altos, California in 1990.
Herman was married to Janet Valentin Carrero on December 20, 1970. They would have been married 55 years this Saturday, December 20. They met at his first job while he was working at the Seventh-Day Adventist Review and Herald in Washington, D.C. Janet was on a tour trip to celebrate her completion of high school. Herman was instantly enamored with Janet and asked her about her upcoming plans. They spent an entire day together, which included a paddleboat ride. Herman already knew she was “the one.” He asked Janet to marry him on that paddleboat ride and she said yes. The rest is history…
While working at the Review and Herald, he was also completing his theology degree. Herman began his ministry as a pastor in 1973 at the Miami Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Herman and Janet had their first son Lester while living in Miami. A few months later they moved to Puerto Rico where he continued his pastoral ministry. Their son Milton was born several months later.
When he completed his pastoral ministry, Herman worked on his Doctor of Naturopathy degree. He began practicing Naturopathy and managing the family health food store. In the following years, he also worked alongside his sons in different business ventures. In addition, Herman served his country in the army when he was drafted for the Vietnam War as a conscientious objector medic.
Above all else, Herman loved God and his family. He spent many hours in Bible study, listening to sermons, prophetic insights, and taking notes. He loved to sing, listen to classical music and especially hymns. Every Friday night was spent in worship to bring in the Sabbath and then again to close the Sabbath on Saturday evenings. He also enjoyed traveling and sight seeing.
Herman is survived by his two sons, H. Lester Carrero (wife Rebecca), Milton E. Carrero (wife Raina) and adopted daughter Marisol Jimenez Carrero (husband Andre), his grandchildren Daniel E. Carrero, Eileen A. Carrero, Eva V. Carrero, Dianna H. Elliot, and Laura H. Carrero as well as his brother Augusto Carrero.
