

She was born on October 5, 1936 to Alma and Richard Plietchwait in Cleveland Ohio and she was baptized into the Lutheran faith in November 1936. Janice attended St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Euclid High School in 1954. Her alma mater was Miami University, Oxford Ohio where she earned a B.S. in Education.
After graduating from college, she taught school in Euclid for one year. One of her greatest joys was sharing her stories about her six years as a flight attendant for TWA. She joined the airline in 1959 and flew domestic and international-earning her 1 Million Miles Pin, a source of pride for her.
Janice married Keith Cherne on May 29, 1965 and moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida where they adopted
three children-Leslie, Mike and Kate. Experiencing parenthood and the excitement of Keith’s work on the Apollo program kept her very busy. In April 1974 the family Transferred to the Detroit area and settled in Rochester, Michigan. She enjoyed teaching 3-year-old Preschool at St. John Lutheran School for 20 years.
After retiring from their jobs, Jan and Keith Retired to Orange City, Florida in 1997.
During her time in Michigan she was an active member of Detroit Chapter of TWA Clipped Wings and was also active at St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester, Michigan.
Always dedicated to her Lord and the church, Jan was an active member of the congregation at Redeemer Lutheran, Sanford. She served as LWML Chair and was a founding Board Member of Redeeming Life Outreach Ministries, a ministry for pregnant and single mothers.
Survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Keith, her three children Leslie Nicholson (Tony), Michael, and Kathryn Snell (Marvin). She was blessed with grandchildren, who knew her as their Nana-Derris, Monica, Michael, Ashley, Colin, Lilya, and Erin. She was also blessed to be a Great-Grandma and Nana to Derris Jr,, Bentley, and Owen.
