

John Fredrick “Fred” Cheney born December 2, 1925 in Clearwater, Florida, passed peacefully into the heavenly realms on December 30, 2020 surrounded by his wife and children. Fred proudly served his country in the U.S Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Upon returning home after the war, he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ruth Morris and went to work for Florida Power & Light where he retired after 42 years. His love of life included family, friends, fishing & traveling. After his retirement, they loaded up their motorhome and toured North America, visiting all of the Lower 48 States, Alaska and Canada.
Survived by his wife of 72 years, Patricia, sons David (Margie), John (Amy) & Jack (Lucy), daughter Janis Tipton (Chris) and son-in-law James Viers; 7 grandchildren, Jessica Cheney, Christopher Tipton, Jr. (Jennifer), Michael Tipton (Angela); Tiffany Viers Lopez (Chris), David Tommy Viers (Sara), Jacqui Cheney Lofy (Kevin) & Patricia Cheney and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Evelyn Cheney Viers, granddaughters Jeanette & Jennifer Cheney, Melanie Viers, great-granddaughter Lily Viers Prue, his parents, Nelson Frank & Ruby Doescher Cheney, brothers William & Jack Cheney and Everett Daniel, Jr.
A private service will be held on Friday, January 15th, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Halifax Hospice Orange City or a local Veterans organization in his honor.
