

Oliver J. Brauner, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Hospice of Halifax Care Center in Orange City, FL. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jacqueline Brauner. He is survived by his children, Claudia Wolf (Cliff), Catherine Brauner (MaryBeth), Joanne Rose (Rick), Timothy Brauner (Sheri), Julia Tift (Larry) and Andrea Crangle. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, Mike Maeda (Jean) and several nieces and nephews. He was born in St. Louis, MO to William and Catherine Brauner; one of five children. He lived much of his life there and retired to Volusia County, FL.
He went into service to our country during WWII. He served in the Army of the United States. His service was in the United States and the Pacific, and he earned medals and bars for his service to our country.
After service, he became a machinist working for McDonnell Douglas Corporation, where they manufactured world renowned airplanes for various uses. They also made parts for NASA space capsules in the 1960’s. Oliver took such pride in his business and was very proud of his accomplishments at McDonnell Douglas. He worked his way up through the company to Supervisor and Management. He enjoyed his friendships during his time there prior to retirement.
In his spare time, Oliver enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, square dancing, woodworking, made stained glass, traveling, and so much more. He was a wonderful husband and father. He helped his children in various activities while they were growing up and provided parochial school education for them as well. He provided his family the opportunities for travel; to see, educate, and enjoy almost the whole United States and beyond... Grand Canyon, Golden Gate Bridge, Cruise the Admiral down the Mississippi, Ozarks, National Parks, mountains, desert, beaches, rivers and rafting, Hawaii, etc... so many fond memories forever.
He was a school crossing guard in Volusia County for many years. Oliver always volunteered to help others. After retiring
to Florida, they continued to volunteer. He was a volunteer fireman for DeBary Fire Department. He was a COP for the Volusia County Sheriff's Department for 20 years. He received numerous awards for his service there. He truly relished his friendships with all the great people in the COP and at the Volusia County Sheriff's Department. He volunteered at St. Ann's Catholic Church, whether helping the youth with plays, visiting ill parishioners, or in many other ways. He was always happy to do whatever needed to be done. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Ministered to the Sick of the Parish. The Parish sponsored and built their first Habitat for Humanity House and Oliver and Jacqueline donated the land for this first home. They helped facilitate the project through to completion. He loved his Parish. His volunteerism continued on in so many ways throughout his lifetime.
Oliver was truly a great man, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
