

Rebecca J. Kern, 75, of DeBary, Florida, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025. The beloved daughter of the late David R. and Edna J. Breakiron, Rebecca was born in Morgantown, West Virginia, on June 10, 1949. After graduating from Morgantown High School in 1967, she completed her nursing studies at York Hospital School of Nursing in 1970. Following her graduation, she worked for many years as a registered nurse at York Hospital (York, Pennsylvania) and Baptist Medical Center (Jacksonville, Florida) in both Surgery and Obstetrics.
She loved being active in the church community: singing in the choir, leading girls ministries, heading Bible studies, and teaching Sunday school. Receiving accreditation in premarital mentoring, she enjoyed speaking with couples as they planned their future marriage.
Rebecca spent much of her free time loving on her many grandchildren, exploring the outdoors, hiking, gardening, bird watching and camping in the mountains. She had a passion for meeting and connecting with others, sharing experiences and stories.
Rebecca is survived by her husband Ralph Kern, III of DeBary; her two children, Dawn (Nathan) Buker of Port Orange, Florida and Dara (Jonathan) Morgan of Baltimore, Maryland; her eight grandchildren, Joshua, Stephan (Katie), Elijah (Alyssa), Ezekiel, Anna, Unity, Alia and Kaia; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Moses.
A visitation for Rebecca will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 10, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763. A committal service will occur Friday, January 10, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Deltona Memorial Gardens, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763.
