Richard, a little more than a whole year has passed since you left us, and I still think of things I'd like to share and discuss with you and get your advice on....as I bet most everyone of us you were close to feels over and over. Dick and I worked together for Baxter in Madison Wisconsin in the early 70's. So sorry to hear of his passing but upon reflecting on our friendship I am laughing thinking of all the fun times Maureen and our kids had with Dick.
Here are a few.
We both received new fleet cars and we meeting for coffee at Madison General hospital. I arrived and notice Dick's car parked on the street. Our cars were identical, so i tried my key and it worked. So I moved his car 3 blocks away. When we left the hospital together he nearly had a heart attack until I took him to his car 30 minutes later. Needles to say we never told each other where we parked.
How about the time we went with our family to a Norweigen fest in Stoughton WI. When we returned to our car we were surrounded by biker bikes. Dick and I were scared to death to say anything. finally the wifes told the bikers to move there bikes so we could go home. They never let us live down our courage under fire.
Let's see how about our trip to Vegas. We ended up being driven around by a cabbie for an hour and he delivered us to a motel he recommended. What a dive. I guess we shouldn't have kept drinking the free wine on the Western airlines flight.

Since I was a child in pigtails you have been a great "Godfather". May you know how much you are loved. May we all find peace knowing you lived life to the fullest!

Dick's personality was one of a kind.  He was a classy guy and respected by many.  His passing was unexpected, but he lived life the fullest.  It was a pleasure to know and work with Dick!

I knew Dick when he was stationed at Whiteman; he and his first wife, Doreen who remains a dear friend of mine, lived across the street.  My husband and I  developed a close friendship that lasted far beyond those years and I have many, many f.d memories of Dick.  I am saddened to hear of his death.

I thought the pain of losing a close friend was supposed to get better with time, not more noticeable and sad :-(  To think I'll never get his phone calls and texts again, and no looked forward to visit feels like a hole that cannot be filled.  Since I don't have a family support system, people like Rich are my family...someone I could share my hopes, dreams and fears.  These people are almost impossible to replace.  Rich, you were the best!!

I read all the messages for Dick and it brought back so many memories  of him and our Baxter family. On the Baxter cruise to Greece a few years ago my husband and I were next door. We had so many laughs because his luggage had been lost and each day his time in port was spent buying clothes. By the time the airlines forwarded his luggage Dick had quite a collection of embroidered linen shirts.  He looked like a native Greek. Dick had such a wonderful sense of fun and could lift anyones spirit. 
Dick, you were truly special and loved by everyone.  Will miss you.

Dick was a special man.  He was so encouraging and positive.  What I will remember most is his work hard play hard attitude and that he was almost always smiling.  Thank you for being so kind and supportive to me.  I hope you are having a grand time up there.

Dick always had a smile, and a great attitude toward life and something postitive to say.  I will miss our conversations, his stories, and his friendship.

Some may say Dick didn't leave children, a wife or much family.  I say he left a huge family.  He created his own family and he cherished everyone.  He found people to do things with and they loved being with him.  I know my children and I enjoyed the times we spent with Dick celebrating special events, checking out cars, planes, festivals and restaurants and just talking about LIFE.

Without knowing you; I think I know all of you.  He would speak with me about his life; where he'd been, where he grew up, how he grew up and where he was going.

I know all about those homes on the lakes in Alabama, the families in Atlanta, his military friends, his cherished cousin and her family in Rhode Island, all the jaunts out to the local eateries and bars in Rhode Island, his Costa Rica travel buddies, his friends from Celebration and what they used to do and where they are now.  Those that he cherished off the Narcoosee corridor and all those Saturday feasts and football games.  Carieras buds and the Sand Lake dancing friends.  Those God sons and God daughters; your family heartaches and joys.  The one he called his son and how he wanted to enjoy your new place on the lake.  The huge ring he found for his friend who was about to get married.  Those Baxter friends that he had so much fun with on cruises he had won for being such a great leader.  His married life and travels to Switzerland..17 times.  His nuclear days in the bunker, his French background in Quebec and his life in Wisconsin. 

I heard it all.  I know all of you without knowing you and I'll bet every one of you know who you are in this message.  He loved all of you and YOU were ALL his family.

Dick brought so much joy and laughter into so many lives.  He was a great friend and a truly wonderful person.  I know Dick is smiling as he looks down on all of us.

I grew up knowing him, but our times together the past couple of years are the memories I'll cherish forever. The parties, the dinners, the drinks, the stories, the friendship and the laughs... He was loved by so many and I know he's smiling down on all of us now. Heaven is lucky to have him.

Thank you for all the guidance and support throughout my life.  You were my coach, my friend, my true believer.  You were there when I needed you most.  I always looked forward to seeing you, your laugh, and your smile.  I feel a new void in my life, and that is your presence in this life.  I know I will see you again some day, but until then, I will sorely miss you.  Have a great time on the other side.  I know you are safe and happy in God's Arms.  I hope to see you again when I am called home.

Dick has made a difference in so many lives.  I know he did in mine.  During the 25 years I worked for Baxter/Travenol, he was the best and my most favorite boss.  He was and is Baxter.  I miss you Dick.  You were a wonderful person and friend. You will never be forgotten.  Thank you for being you.

What a great guy!  I loved working with Dick because when we went into a hospital, he never knew what I was going to do or say.  He was always nervous.  I sure will miss you, Buddy.       Jim Summers

What a great guy who I will never forget. A Gentleman: "A chivalrous,courteous and honorable man." A few other words that define gentleman: polite, intellectual, and strong. Dick was all if these. Rest in peace.

There is one thing that can't be said about Dick...anything negative.  I am proud to have known Dick for over 30 years and will miss him greatly. He was  a great boss, person and friend.  The mold was broken with him.  Rest in peace my friend.  You are loved my many.

Dick, You had so much to offer and so much to give and you always gave it all.  I will never forget your smile and your exuberant energy for life!  You taught me so much and most importantly you taught me to enjoy it along the way!  

I remember the little things like stopping for ice cream on our way to an appointment, or cutting up in the hallway.  And although I can only remember 1 of your latin phrases you would close your region emails with (word to the wise), it was always one that would make me stop for a moment and think.  Which is exactly what you wanted us to do.

You traveled the right path my friend and now it is your time to rest.  God is holding you in his arms and we will meet again one day.

Memories last forever.  Thank you.

Dick Charland's name was plastered all over our house.  When we traveled, we asked if he would be the "Contact Man" for our boys while we were away, should anything go wrong. "Yes," Dick said, "I'd be so pleased to do it!"
In the event of our death, we asked if he would agree to be the one for our kids to lean on.  His answer was unhesitatingly "YES!" 
That was his answer to life--"YES!!!"

Dick will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him over the years.  His friendship, leadership and being the person he was will be an enduring gift to us all.  God bless you Dick.

I was so very lucky to have Rich as a good friend for the few yearsI did, but will never forget the fun times we did have....I'm so glad I got to do the special things with him the end of last summer before I moved to AZ (the beach a few times, a concert, Predators game, a dinner party I had, etc.)... When I think of Rich, I smile because he was the friend and male mentor I needed many times...he was always there to talk things through with.  You'll be missed so much by so many, Rich!!

I hired Dick & placed him in Madison,Wisc..From the first day I met Dick to the last time I saw him he was always a kind,caring & thoughtful person.His family was Baxter from day one to his last day.He would always call me to see how I was doing I will miss him. Good Bye Dear Friend.

Dick was one of those rare human beings that made everybody feel welcome and important.  I will miss seeing him and interacting with him at our Baxter meetings.

Dick was a special friend and mentor to me.  I will cherish all the memories of our time together.  His ability to bring joy to those around him was priceless. Dick will live on forever in my heart.

We tend to evaluate the people we encounter by observing the impact they have on others.  Using this measure, Dick had few peers.  The enormously positive influence Dick exerted on those around him was a central theme of his life.

As a leader and manager, Dick understood the essence of creating an unbeatable team.  With tireless mentoring, integrity, and fairness, he developed a winning organization that sustained its excellence because he cared for customers and employees alike.

With his wonderful sense of humor, Dick would no doubt discourage his old friends from being too generous with our praise.  In response I would simply say to Dick that he has earned every measure of our love and admiration.

Dick always made you feel like family at Baxter meetings, he was always willing to help and share ideas. But he was most fun on all those company trips! His smile was contagious. We will miss him dearly.

My family recently relocated here to Orlando in September.. We took part in the neighborhood Holloween festivities and walked from house to house with my wife & daughter ... We came up to the corner house on Via Vivaldi and saw a man with a big smile with a parrot on his shoulder.. We introduced ourselves.. and a treasured friendship began .. 
I will miss our talks .. Rest in peace..

I only knew Dick for a short time but he made me feel we had been friends forever. We had the bond of being Air Force Officers and he always displayed our motto of Duty, Honor, and Country. Dick was always quick with a smile and a story to tell. Dick you will be missed by all who knew you and my life is richer for knowing you.

A friend and next door neighbor. We will miss his smile and friendly conversation. We are touched by all of those that cared for him so much.

I had the pleasure of knowing Uncle Dick my whole life. I'll remember him not only for his cheerful disposition and gregarious personality, but also for all the little things...Like the time he took me fishing when I was just a small child and we caught a huge bass! Well, it seemed huge at the time when I was so small…Or throughout my college days in which we ate wings at the local pool hall and played pool for a couple hours. He was great at listening and providing sage advice to a college student that was going through the tumultuous time of deciding on what to do with his future.

Not only was Uncle Dick a very genuine person, but he was also a great family friend. He will truly be missed by all. Although, I doubt he would want us to be too sad about his passing; he lived his life how he wanted to live it and had a great time along the way…Usually with a drink in hand and a smile on his face.

when you love someone as much as Dick was loved, its very hard to put it into words the magnitude of the loss you feel when he's taken away from you. Andrew and I have been trying to put into words our feelings and we just can't. So all i will say is thank you my dear friend for making this world a better place while you were in it. you will live on in my heart forever, and will never ever be  forgotten.  you took a piece of all of us when you GOD took you home. REST IN PARADISE n PEACE my very very dear friend  and i know through our mutual faith  in the lord, i will see you again. i love you deeply and sorely miss you already.  You changed my life forever and i promise to live on in the best way i can FOR you, for i know that is how you would want it. <3 <3 <3

People pass on, but their memory lives on in our hearts.  Football Sunday in Kissimmee will never be the same without you Dick.  You will be missed but never forgotten.

Dick was a smile and a hand to so many of us.  He made every person he touched feel like they were important and his best friend.  If you had a problem, Dick listened.  If you wanted to have an interesting discussion about the state of health care.. supply chain vs hospital, he was always on for it.  Many times Dick would be the person saying "hey wanna do something" and he would scurry about trying to find something new and always fun to do.  Honest and interesting, caring and kind, respectful and lively....that's Dick...Man now who do I call when I just want to do something fun and different.  i will miss you so very much my dear friend. I'm so privileged to have had you as a friend and to have spent some great times with you.  Until we meet again.....

Two really special individuals were lost in the past few days.  Both were loved, and admired by many.  Both were outstanding in their professional careers, winning numerous awards and respect from their peers.  Both were admired for the way they conducted their lives outside of their professions.
No one every had anything negative to say about either one.  They will both be missed and not soon forgotten. I was a big fan of both.

I heard someone use the phrase the other day about a famous person and they said "he was larger than life."  That is a great way to describe our friend Dick Charland.  He was always happy and loved all his friends so much.  I never heard an unkind word spoken about anyone and everyone wanted to be around you.  Personally you were so much more than a friend to many of us.  More than anyone you reached out and helped my family at our greatest hour of need.  Nancy and I are forever grateful.  As a mentor you inspired as a person you led by example and as a friend you loved us all. As one of Dick's many Baxter brothers and sisters, I am deeply saddened by his sudden passing. Dick meant so much to so many.  Baxter Healthcare was so lucky to have this passionate and patriotic guy on their team for such a long tenure. If you were ever around Dick for any length of time, it became very apparent that his love of country and its' military was his real passion.
Having had the pleasure of working for and with Dick will always will always be with me. He will never be forgotten by us all.  "Smooth Sailing Brother.."

Our neighborhood and pool socials just won't be the same with out your smiling face.  Thank you for all the great memories and laughs.  You will be missed by many.
