

age 91, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Sherman was born in Bar Harbor, Maine on August 15, 1922 to the late Lawrence Joseph Peiffer, Jr. and Laura Parker Peiffer and grew up in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. He was named after his Uncle Sherman, who was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and was lost at sea at the age of 21. He drowned during the rescue of a floundering ship in a winter storm off the coast of Maine. Sherman was predeceased by his only brother, Lawrence Joseph Peiffer II.
He graduated from Boston University and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. He served in the South Pacific during WWII as a PT Boat Commander.
Sherman moved to Orlando, Florida in 1945 and married the late Carolyn V. Tysinger. He was employed by Eastern Airlines and then spent many years selling Correct Craft Boats. He lived in Deltona with his second wife, the late Adell W. Peiffer. There he was an active volunteer at the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home and on April 20, 2005, he received the Volusia/Flagler County Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award. He moved to Mims, FL in 2007 and became an active member of the Mims United Methodist Church. Until recently, he was a regular participant in the Silver Sneakers program and was very proud of the fact that he was one of the oldest members.
Sherman is survived by his 4 children, Sherrill Holley (Jerry) of Mims, FL, Meredith McWaters (Mark) of Longwood, FL, Sherman Peiffer, Jr. (Mardi) of Silva, NC and Randy Lambert (Marie) of Island Lake, IL. He also leaves 9 grandchildren: Kate Mascheri (David), Jason Holley (Tish), Amanda Hagan (Frank), Rocky Kittle (Donna), Ginger LePage, David Peiffer (Rachel), Laura Valentine (Tom), Allison Reynolds (Mike) and A.J. Lambert (Elizabeth).
He was also the proud great-grandfather of Jessica and Megan Mascheri, Justin and Caitlyn Holley, Lexi and Bella LePage, Gabriel Peiffer, Taylor Lambert, Kyleigh and Brendan Reynolds and Haley and Cooper Lambert.
