Born and raised in Lexington, SC, Betty’s life would take her around the globe when she became a military spouse and supported her husband’s Navy career. Strength embodied, Betty created loving homes for her family wherever they landed in a time when trans-Atlantic and cross country communications were neither easy or affordable. She confidently managed everything while her husband was away at sea serving our nation. She showed her love through her wonderful cooking and by sharing her gifts with yarn and fabric. Her family will continue to feel her love as they wrap themselves in quilts and afghans she lovingly made them.
Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years Charles Roberts, sons Michael Roberts and Walter (Marie) Roberts, grandchildren Michele Roberts-Bauer (Scott Bauer), Elyse Kinard (Arron), Matthew Roberts, and Bailey Roberts, great grandchildren Quentin and Walker Kinard, and her sister Ruby (Bob) Mack. She is predeceased by her parents Noah Ryan and Thelma Azalee Shealy, her daughter-in-law Jennifer, and her beloved Melinda who was born sleeping.
A celebration of life will be held at Advent Lutheran Church in Orange Park, FL on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in West Columbia, SC on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Advent Lutheran or Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
