Born on July 18, 1934, in North Hampton County, North Carolina, Edith was the daughter of the late Aaron and Margaret Bracy. She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Bracy.
A dedicated educator, Edith served in public school systems across North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida. She spent the majority of her career—30 years—teaching at Lakeside Elementary School in Orange Park, Florida, where she was known for her commitment, patience, and the lasting impact she made in the lives of her students.
Edith was also a loving homemaker, and her home and family were the heart of her life. She found joy in traveling with loved ones, going out to dinner, and simply spending time with those she held dear.
A devout member of the Methodist Church, Edith lived out her faith with humility, service, and compassion.
She was married to the love of her life, Eugene W. Hughson, for 68 years. Together they built a life grounded in faith, love, and mutual respect.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Eugene Hughson, and their son, Eric Hughson.
Her life was a testament to grace, strength, and unconditional love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
