
James Albert Brownsberger, CDR, USN (Ret), passed away on September 5, 2012. He was 92. James was born in Montrose, Missouri and graduated high school in Appleton City, MO. He attended Central College in Fayette, MO and Missouri University. His education was interrupted by World War II, when he entered the Navy. He served in the Navy for 22 years as an aviator and flight instructor, retiring at the rank of Commander. Upon retiring, he and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, eventually settling in Orange Park, where he lived for the past 46 years. He finally was able to graduate from Jacksonville University with a B. S. degree.
After retiring from the military he worked as an auditor for the Florida Department of Banking & Finance for 15 years, retiring in 1984. He and his family were one of the founding families of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for several years. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Mason Brownsberger; his three sons: Nicholas (Mary), Gary (Janet), and Daniel (Carol); his daughter Jeannie; his grandchildren: Laura, David, Shelly (Michael), Ashley (Parker), Matthew (Shajira), and Jonathan; and his great grand daughter Alexandra.
A viewing and rosary (at 7:00 p.m.) will be held Sunday September 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Orange Park.
