He was predeceased by his parents: William and Georgia Hale and Brother, Billy Hale.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hall Hale; four children: Patricia Deveaux (Randy), Donna Hale Wagner, Deborah Vines (Jim) and James Hale; grandchildren: Jon Deveaux, Jenn Deveaux Cunningham
(James), Leah Wagner McMinn (Brad), Dana Vines and Megan Wagner McCommon (Steven); 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Jerry was a career pressman, working for Dun & Bradstreet and retired from the civil service at NAS Jacksonville. After retiring, he and Betty became active in the Campers on Mission ministry. They traveled
around in their camper enjoying the beauty of this great country and serving the Lord.
Jerry was a life-long Southern Baptist and served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and usher. To say Jerry enjoyed the outdoors would be a gross understatement.
He would rather be fishing on a lake, walking in the woods, chasing a golf ball, watching, and identifying planes or birds, or sitting in the stands at a baseball game. He was a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn/Los
Angeles Dodgers, and an avid Gator football fan, having ushered at games when Steve Spurrier was the quarterback.
Jerry’s great love was for the Lord which was manifested through his love for his family. He poured his life into his children, making sure they were raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He also shared
his love of music with the children and grandchildren. Ranging from country to classical, Jerry was usually whistling a tune, even the more intricate passages from Mozart or conducting the symphony orchestra
on vinyl records.
Jerry also loved people. He would befriend anyone and if he saw a need, he didn’t hesitate to help. Even in his latter years, he developed friendships at Woodland Towers and enjoyed engaging with the staff
and other residents.
