Dear Aunt Joyce, seems like yesterday when you were called home, the hurt doesn't go away. You were the core of our family and nothing seems the same. The holidays are here again and the missing you hurts more. Not a day goes by That I don't think of you, whether it's with a smile or laughter from a memory or to shed a tear wishing you were still with us. I talk to you often about things that happen and tell you I miss you all the time.  Your never forgotten. We all love and miss you dearly.  

Joyce and I shared so much. Our lives were connected through Chris and Carrie's marriage and extended multi-fold through our beautiful granddaughters Shelby and Liberty. I'm so grateful for all the love and friendship we shared through these many years. Emil and I will miss her terribly.

I loved Joyce very much. She was like a mom to me and so many of us that grew up with Carrie. I am so sad she is no longer with us but I am glad her suffering is over. She will be missed so much and in our memories forever. I love you Joyce.

Joyce, you were such a big part of my teenage years and beyond. You tolerated my talking contests with Carrie and let us have fun when the work was done. And you taught me that it is ok to make mistakes, as long as you own up to them. Life is too short but you made every minute count. Always smiling and spunky, that is how my family and I will remember you.

My Mama was known for her spirited personality, stubbornness, down to earth genuineness, determination, and positive outlook on every situation. We all admired her passion for everything she did. She was the epitome of living life to the fullest. We were all in awe of her strength and commitment. She was as competitive as they come and had an endless supply of spunk! She could get more done in two hours than most people could in ten! From her roots as a coal miner's daughter, she learned to never get above her raisin' and almost naturally it seemed she was everybody's biggest fan! She bragged about all of her loved ones and took pride in being the cheerleader on the sidelines as each individual made their mark on this world. 

She was so very ambitious. Her goals were always above and beyond lofty and she achieved many that most would've considered impossible or not worth the time. Aspiring to be the best was always worth it to her. She wanted everyone around her to want this for themselves. 

She was known for spoiling her grandkids rotten and not worrying about what people thought about her, telling you like it is, being an open book (saying things that may have shocked a few people from time to time), always being put together before she left the house (lipstick on!), living life to the fullest (Work Hard. Play Harder!), and being everyone's "mom", aunt, grandma, best friend, cheerleader, coach, and counselor. She was also notorious for her ability to exaggerate, embellish, and use slang words, idioms and euphemisms. Idioms and euphemisms are a dime a dozen, but not the way Mama used them. She used them all the time, combined them, made her own up, and added on to standard ones for effect.  She used some common ones like Don't look a gift horse in the mouth: and A Bird in the bush is worth two in the hand. And then, there were ones she started a sentence with, but added on to for emphasis, like Bite your tongue little missy or I'll whoop your hind end. 

She was a spit fire with a heart of gold and she was a hoot. She entertained us all and taught us lifelong lessons we'll carry with us as we continue to make memories in her honor. Oh how I admired her competitive spirit. She wouldn't allow anyone to tell her it couldn't be done and she made it her mission to prove that it could be done. I will cherish every single moment I had with her here on Earth and know that one day we'll be cartwheeling angels together in heaven because the apple surely didn't fall far from the tree. I am blessed beyond belief to be my mother's daughter and spitting image!

Your legacy lives on. Your determination, fight, spunk, ambition, and drive is all here to stay in your children and grandchildren who will carry on and keep making you proud. We all know you're already bragging away to all of the other angels among you. Rest in peace, Mama. Keep everyone in line up there and organize that place so I have less to do when I get there with you!

Grandma Joyce, you meant the world to me and I still cannot believe you're gone. You were a beautiful light in my life and in so many others' as well, with your incredible kindness, incomparable humor, and unending love. I hope I make you as proud as I've always been so proud to be your granddaughter.
I'll never stop missing you. I'll never be done learning from you. I'll always love you. Thank you for everything, Mama Juice.

I can't begin to express how sorry I feel for the family. I loved Joyce, I have so many fond and fun memories. The two of us running around (like Lucy and Ethel) buying huge baby Griffin a new larger wardrobe after he was born! I so enjoyed her company! And the influence she had on the most wonderful women I admire and love I am blessed to know.

I think of you every day and it breaks my heart to know that You are gone.   I will always love you Sissy.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about Aunt Joyce. I miss her so very much and will be forever grateful for all that she has given me in my life. I spent summers going to visit Carrie and Alan and Aunt Joyce always treated me like one of her own children. She invited me to move in with her in Florida after high school graduation and for my 18th birthday bought me my first college class. I didn't think college was an option at that time, but she made sure it was. Over the years she always made me laugh with her silly and fun personality. She has always had a great love for her family and friends and loved to make sure a visit to her house was filled with an abundance of food and sweets of every kind covering every inch of counter space! She loved to spoil us all! She always seemed to have fun regardless of the circumstances. She had endless energy and a grateful heart. She helped shape me and my journey in life. I will forever be grateful to her. I  will miss her tremendously.  Our family will not be the same without her.

Joyce was my very best friend. She was witty, smart, generous, and she had such a wonderful heart, always caring for everybody she meet. She cook, clean and carry a complete conversation without missing a beat. I will forever miss her. Praying for her family.

The best mother a son could ever have or wish for. You made me who I am today eapecially with that never give up attitude. You gave me all the tools i need to suceed in life. You meant so much to me and my family. You picked up when I fell, you gave me advice when I needed it, you took care of me when I was sick,  and when I needed it tough love, I cant ever remember anything but love. You are the true definition of unconditional love. I love u so much and will miss you everyday.

She was a great mother, mother-in-law and grandma.  She taught me how to be true to myself and to be a great woman.  I will always be grateful to have that type of guidance in my life; even though it was temporary.  She will be missed and her love will always be in my heart.

To the Workman Fillinger family,  Prayers for all of you.  Only God has the answer for your pain and prayers for comfort.   I remember Joyce, Chioe,Barbara when they would come and visit us (Jimmy & Myrtle Johnson on top of Dingess Mt.).  I also went to school we her sister n law Linda Workman Fillinger).

I didn't have a chance to meet you, but I feel like I know you through all the stories and anecdotes I've heard.  You made a big impact in my life by raising such a great family. Your daughter Carrie is an amazing woman, mother, and friend and an even better boss. I know you'll continue to look over all of them as a guardian angel.

To Joyce's Family - Please accept my condolences.  I only knew Joyce through the work place.  She was an exceptional person, bright, intelligent, dedicated, hard working, and a joy to be around.  I shall always have the upmost respect and admiration for her.  So glad I got to know her even if it was just on a professional level.  All our lives were blessed to have this beautiful woman grace it.   I know your hearts are broken and nothing said will ease the pain so I am praying for peace and comfort for you all.
