John W. Christakes

John W. Christakes, aged 72, passed away on August 2nd, 2024. John was a beloved member of our community known for his dedication and hard work in the family grocery business, Shop-N-Save. He worked closely with his father, uncles, aunts and many cousins. John spent many years working as a skilled butcher and business owner.

Born and raised in a family that valued hard work and service, John carried these principles throughout his life. He was known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail in his work, ensuring that each customer received the highest quality products. His expertise and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Loving husband of 52 years to Denise, nee Poulos; Beloved father to Jamie (Jennifer) Christakes, Sandy Dominik, and Lexie (Dave “Bub”) Brown; Cherished papa to Jonah Newton, Luke and Nola Dominik, Callen and Mckenzie Brown; Devoted son to the late William and Fanny Christakes; Beloved brother to the late James Christakes; Fond son-in-law to the late Theodore and Helen Poulos; Dear brother-in-law to the late Mark (Debbie) Poulos; Adored uncle to Nicole Himmelman and Mark (Jamie) Poulos; Amazing great-uncle to Maeve Himmelman, Gavin, Asher, and Beckett Poulos; Treasured friend to many.

John’s legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and love for family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched.

Visitation for John will be from 3-8 PM on Thursday, August 8, at Orland Funeral Home, 9900 W 143rd, Orland Park, IL 60462, where a Trisagion Service will take place that night. Funeral Service and Interment will be private the following day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church, 36 W 700 North, Valparaiso, IN 46385.
