

Anne Hammond Connell, 87, Winter Park, died May 21, 2015. Born Sarah Anne Hammond, in 1927, South Jacksonville, Florida, to Sidney Hammond and Rhea Jane Gullette. The family moved to Orlando in 1936 and to Winter Park in 1937, where she has lived most of her life. She attended Winter Park Elementary and Winter Park High School, '45. She attended Rollins College, ' 49. She was then secretary to a local attorney. In February 1951, she met 2nd LT. Richard A. Connell, of Dallas Texas, a part of the group reactivating the old Orlando Air Force Base. They were married on 9 June 1951 at Knowles Chapel, Rollins College. Two months later, Richard departed for Germany and in 6 months, she landed in Germany, in a raging snowstorm. They had a grand honeymoon in Europe, returning stateside 8 months later. Dick joined his father-in-law's accounting firm. Anne had a passion for her family history since childhood and was an avid genealogist. She travelled extensively to research, especially in the south and in England. She is known for her work on her Geiger ancestry. She was a 6th generation Floridian and a member of the Florida Pioneers Assn. She was also a member of the Central Florida Genealogical Society and several other similar associations. She was a founding member and officer of the local Reseve Officers Assn. League, and also a founding member and officer of the Winter Park JayCee Wives Club. She worked in the family accounting practice during tax time and was a constant aide to her husband in his Air Force Reserve career. She was the mother of James (Laurie) and Betsy, grandmother of four: Lindsay. Stephen, Mark and Ryan; one great grandchild, Micayla, and another on-the-way. She is survied by all of these plus a brother, George S.Hammond.
