

THOMPSON, JR., CARL L., 84, Orlando, passed away May 13, 2011. He was born April 12, 1927, to Carl and Beulah Hollingsworth Thompson of Tallahassee, Florida. He graduated from Leon High School and joined the Navy in 1944. He served in the Pacific until 1946 - the end of WWII. He graduated from FSU in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. While attending FSU, he was a member of the Gold Key fraternity for leadership and a charter member of the Florida Gamma chapter of Phi Delta Theta. Later, he served on the alumni board for FSU. He attended Law School at the University of Florida, graduating in 1956. After moving to Orlando, Mr. Thompson practiced law as a sole practitioner for 50 years. He was a member of the University Club of Orlando and was active in civic affairs. Mr. Thompson was an early member of Christ the King Episcopal Church of Orlando. As a member of the vestry, he helped raise funds for the new church and served as a Boy Scout leader. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Masonic Orlando Lodge #69. Mr. Thompson will be lovingly remembered for his undying sense of humor. He could make us smile even during the most difficult of times. He loved fishing and aviation. His greatest joys included flying his single-engine Cessna and fishing trips with close friends. Mr.
Thompson is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sara Brewer
Thompson; daughter, Jean K. Thompson; son, Stephen B. Thompson; and brother, James Thompson of Tallahassee, Florida. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 10:30 am at Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society .
