Catherine Aponte Huckaby

Catherine Aponte Huckaby, 52, of Wellington, FL, passed away on April 2nd. Cathy was the youngest of six children born to the family of Celso and Ernestina Diaz on July 19th, 1971, in Springfield Massachusetts. Cathy moved to Orlando, Florida in 1988, where she graduated from Dr. Phillips High School in 1989.

In September of 1994, after weeks of talking on the phone - Cathy and Perry finally met on a blind date and a year later, Cathy and her navy man married on December 9, 1995, and happily shared the last 29 years together. Her family meant everything to her, and her love for Perry, Mariah, and Perry III was unconditional.

Cathy’s love of helping others is seen throughout her career as well as in her dedication to family and friends. Her vibrant personality and open arms provided comfort, friendship, and guidance to many – “She never met a stranger”.

Cathy had a passion for singing, and a beautiful voice that was unforgettable. She inspired many with her strength, positive attitude, and contagious laugh.

She is survived by husband: Perry Huckaby Jr., children: Mariah Huckaby and Perry Huckaby III, mother: Ernestina Diaz, siblings: Margarita Rivera (Ismael), Roberto Diaz (Zoraida), Evelyn Diaz, David Diaz (Maggie) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, best friend: Nikki McKenzie. She was preceded in death by father Celso Diaz and brother Celso Diaz.
