

Evelyn H. Kelley, 101, passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2019. She was born June 5, 1918 in Newberry, FL to Dr. S. A. Hussey, Sr. and Lula Davis Hussey. At age 16, she moved with her family to Gainesville, FL, where she would meet her future husband, Hunter C. Kelley, in high school.
Evelyn received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce in 1940 from Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.
Evelyn and Hunter were married on January 17, 1941, in Gainesville and spent the first year of their marriage on the island of Antigua in the British West Indies. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, they returned to Gainesville, where Hunter joined the US Army. Evelyn worked at Franklin’s Dress Shop in Gainesville while Hunter served in the Asiatic Pacific theatre.
After WWII ended and Hunter graduated from the University of Florida they moved to Upperville, Virginia, where they owned a farm. The winters proved too cold though and they returned to Florida. In 1953 they moved to Orlando where Hunter began his career with T. G. Lee Farms.
Evelyn joined the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle in April of 1957 and was an active member for over 62 years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for elementary age children and served as Chairman of the Flower Committee for 20 years.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Kelley, Belle Isle, grandson Marshall L. Kelley, Casselberry, granddaughter Autumn M. Kelley, Altamonte Springs and great-granddaughter Anabella M. Miller, Altamonte Springs. She is also survived by two great-nephews, William D. Hussey, Jr. (Tricia), Jeffrey R. Hussey (Karen) and their mother Elizabeth H. Hussey. Also surviving her are two great-great-nieces, Alison P. Hussey and Faith ¬¬E. Hussey and one great-great-nephew, Ethan D. Hussey.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle, 1001 Hoffner Avenue, Orlando, FL 32809, on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Gotha. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pine Castle’s building fund.
