August 21, 1944 – May 12, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Joyce “Grammy” Ala's passing on May 12, 2025, at the age of 80. Joyce lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family. As the true matriarch, she created a legacy of warmth and togetherness that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andy “Skip” Ala. Their enduring love story continues now as they are reunited.
Joyce leaves behind her loving children: Andrew (Len) Ala, Jr. and his wife, Susan MacNeil; Mark Ala and his wife, Robin; and Stacey Adams and her husband, Jason. She is also survived by her dear nephew, Fred Whitten, and her cherished grandchildren: Casey Bradford and her husband Mason, Andrew Ala III, Sophie Adams, Katie Ala, and Christian Ala. Grammy was blessed to know the joy of being a great-grandmother to Declan Bradford. Her extended family includes countless nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who became family through the bonds of love and shared memories.
Grammy embraced life with an adventurous spirit. She treasured her summers in Salisbury and found creative fulfillment in her passion for scrapbooking, preserving precious memories for generations to come. With her travel companion Jayne, she explored the world on numerous cruises and delighted in visits to wineries.
Her home was the gathering place for holidays and celebrations, where she welcomed everyone with open arms and created traditions and memories that will be cherished forever. Grammy’s greatest joy was her family, and her love for them knew no bounds.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in the beautiful memories and the lasting impact Grammy had on all our lives. Her spirit of generosity, her zest for life, and her unconditional love will continue to guide us.
May she rest in peace, reunited with Skip, watching over her family with the same love and care she always showed in life.
