Katherine (Katie) Margaret Robinson, 24, peacefully passed from this life in her home surrounded by loving family and pets on Thursday morning, June 6, after years of battling complications from cystic fibrosis and lung transplant rejection. There will not be a viewing but a Celebration of her Life Memorial Service is being planned for later this month. Check www.careyhandcolonialfh.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.careyhandcolonialfh.com for details as they become available. Katie was born April 30, 1989, and lived in Orlando with her parents, Marianne and Howard Robinson, and her brother, Ian Robinson. She was engaged to Miguel Ramos of Orlando with plans for marriage later this year. She was a graduate of Boone High School and attended classes at community college with a goal of working with animals. Much of her life was focused on slowing the progression of the genetic disease, cystic fibrosis. In 2006 she received a double lung transplant at Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Four years later she was diagnosed with chronic rejection and suffered from several complications as a result. While in high school, Katie was involved in the Boone Band as a flautist and enjoyed a wide variety of music from classical, to country, to prog rock of the 70’s, current genres, and Disney movie tunes. Her real passion was working with horses and dogs and was recently featured on a FOX News piece on Pet Therapy http://www.myfoxorlando.com/video?clipId=8867687&autostart=true In her teen years she competed in several horse shows and always took home a ribbon or two. As her health declined in her later years she cultivated a very large following on her blog http://katiesconquest.wordpress.com/ and on FaceBook where she inspired and helped countless people by sharing her own story with them. Most recently she was working on gaining public support for a Florida State Amendment to change the Florida Driver’s License “opt in” check box to an “opt out” on organ donation to improve the number of organ donations and help thousands of people. Through it all, Katie was able to miraculously keep an incredibly positive spirit and found ways to make others feel good with her smile and giggles. She was an earth angel with an enlightened soul. The courage and strength she demonstrated day after day fighting the battle in front of her inspired all who knew her beautiful soul. Donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org. She has a Memorial page on this site you can view.
