Mildred was born in Santo Domingo on November 8, 1937 and raised by her father Manuel Armando Guerra (Nini) and mother Carmen Otilia Sanabia de Guerra (Tita) alongside her sister, Erna Guerra De Dominici in the Dominican Republic until she moved to the United States after marrying her husband, Clayton Brooks.
Mildred lived a life fueled by her passion for travel, influence, fashion, and dance. She excelled in a tourism career by holding multiple jobs including Director of Tourism for the Dominican Republic, Director of Sales for Sheraton, and holding her own beloved gift shop in Miami, FL. She also held many unique positions in between, including being a stewardess of former Pan-AM Airlines, working for Iberia Airlines and in Disney as a surveyor and running a shop in Old Town.
She was a very busy woman, but if she heard a good merengue, she would take a moment to dance. She would record her memories of world travel through souvenir coins, matches, and vintage spoons. Most notably though, she had a particular affection for clowns, and adorned her house with clown dolls, porcelains, portraits, etc. In the former years of her life, she found true love once again, in her Bull Terrier Juancho, who we know she’s very excited to be alongside now.
In everything Mildred did, she moved in elegance and poise. No matter where her circumstances brought her, she held perfect posture, a very fashioned hat, a confidence that naturally demanded attention, and a smile that would brighten-up any room. If you were lucky enough to see her on a Monday, you would see her dressed up in head-to-toe red, literally from the roots of her hair to the tips of her shoes.
The term “fail” was never in her vocabulary as she was very strong in her education, discipline, and dominant personality. If there is one lesson Mildred taught her family, is that you can do anything you put your mind to, (mind over matter) but make sure you do it in elegance.
She is now the Guardian Angel of her two daughters, Gena Lamorena, Carmen Brooks, four granddaughters, Ginette Javier, Angemarie Javier, Johanny Ballista-Dominguez, and JohannMarie Ballista, and one great-granddaughter, Aria Dominguez.
Family, friends, acquaintances, and others are welcome to wear red and celebrate Mildred Brook’s life at Family Funeral Care on 13001 South John Young Pkway, Orlando, FL 32837 from 4 PM – 7 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2020.
