He was “Bob” to his colleagues, clients, and friends—but to those closest to him, he was our endearing “Ozzie.” His happiest place was anywhere with his beloved wife, Jennifer—his “Bunzy”—and, of course, his beautiful daughter, Nikki.
Ozzie was an extraordinary cook (though you didn’t want to get in his way in the kitchen!). His intellect was remarkable, and he never did anything halfway—whether serving a client, indulging his passion for fine wine and spirits, or traveling the world with Bunzy whenever they could steal away. He lived fully, embracing life with enormous joy and sharing it generously with those he loved.
Music was a big part of him—especially the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan. He was an avid Giants and Red Sox fan, and in his younger years, a gifted athlete, excelling at baseball before later enjoying softball and bowling. His humor was sharp, witty, and delightfully dry, keeping everyone around him on their toes.
He had many hidden talents—he was skilled at drawing, a gifted photographer leaving us with breathtaking images, and a wonderful writer. He loved the water, whether the ocean or a quiet lake, and was always eager to take family and friends “out on the boat.” He adored Seinfeld, and he probably could have been a champion on Jeopardy!—another favorite. Ever curious, he embraced all that life had to offer, once even taking a beekeeping class.
Ozzie was respected and admired not only for his work in law, but for the way he guided and inspired others. He loved mentoring young people, encouraging them in their careers and in life. A passionate gardener, he grew a mean cucumber, and found peace among the flowers and in the quiet of nature. Despite his many accomplishments, Ozzie remained humble. He was never one to seek status or recognition. He saw past flaws and valued people for their character.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Jennifer “Cavalieri” Swift, his daughter Nikki Lynn Swift, both in Orlando, FL. His sister Mary Beth “Swift” Scaia in Watertown, CT. His mother-in-law Rose Bjurholm in Tampa FL. His brother-in-law Nick Cavalieri and his wife Lynn in Dalton, MA. His niece Rachel Barcusky and her husband Brad in Watertown, CT. His nephew Michael Scaia and his wife Samantha in Fairfield, CT. His Nephew Michael Cavalieri in Dalton, MA. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary Swift of CT and father-in-law Lars Bjurholm in Florida. His two great nieces Layla, and Ariana, one great nephew Nolan, and countless friends, extended family members, and colleagues.
He will be profoundly missed and forever loved—especially by those who were lucky enough to be closest to him. A Celebration of life will be held at a future date in both Florida, and Connecticut.
