

Rose “Ellen” George passed away July 10, 2025 at the age of 87. She was born on November 24, 1937 to Richard Charles and Mattie Kelly Jarboe and was raised in the beautiful town of Lebanon, Kentucky. As a young girl she waitressed in her father’s restaurant, Jarboe’s. Ellen graduated high school from St. Augustine and then St. Catharine College in 1957. She trained at St. Joseph Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee where she became a Medical Technologist. This hospital is now the famous St. Jude Children’s Hospital. It was there, in the lunch line, that she met her husband, Dr. Charles William George. They were married on New Year’s Eve in 1958. They moved to Orlando, Florida and were married for 65 years.
Ellen is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Charles William George and her sister, Mary Lera Green. She is survived by her family of 15. Her daughters, Lisa George Ramsby (Gregory) and Laura George; and son, Richard William George (Mary). Ellen has 7 grandchildren, William Ramsby (Heather), Bailey Ramsby, Macy Ramsby, Kelly George, Ashley George, Reed Wolter and Pierce Wolter. She has 2 great grandchildren, Riggs Ramsby and Woods Ramsby. “Rose” always had a special place in her heart for her “Kentucky Georges”.
She enjoyed antiquing, traveling, cooking, her treasured tennis group and reading her Kindle. She was loyal, caring and giving. Ellen loved her family most of all and created so many holiday traditions that will continue. Life on Lake Conway was the center point of the family…swimming, fishing, sailing, cookouts, homemade peach ice cream, rag tag, dock-roof jumping, snail egg wars and Sangria Sundays. She taught dozens of neighborhood friends and family to waterski.
Ellen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 and outran it for 28 years without a complaint. Her family will gather graveside in August and afterwards, celebrate her life at her beloved Lake Conway home of 57 years. She was deeply loved and we will miss her.
