Susan was born on October 11, 1958 to Frank Joseph Kuchar and Jimmie Louise (Earls) Kuchar in Paris, Arkansas. While attending Florida College she met and married the love of her life, David Anthony Duncan, on September 22, 1979.
Susan was a devoted wife and mother. She dedicated her life to building a home for her family. Home schooling all of her daughters during their early years in order to give them a head start in school and passion for learning. She was always one of the most actively involved parents in the education and school activities of her daughters: attending every field trip, recital, audition, award ceremony, marching band performance and volunteering part-time at the high school just to be close to her daughters.
In addition to raising her children, she was a very active leader at her local congregation. At South Bumby church of Christ, she was instrumental in teaching the younger generations, even writing four workbooks (Primary Year 3, Books 1-4, in “Discovering God’s Way” series sold by Religious Bible Supply) to be used in congregations nationwide. She was a shining example of faith and goodness to those around her.
When she was diagnosed with Gastro-Intestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) in 2005, she fought the cancer with every option the doctors gave her despite her fears and the side effects of the drugs themselves. She became involved with many GIST sufferers around the country and provided support to them, especially to those newly diagnosed and ignorant of what they would face. In spite of the grim outlook of her disease and the difficulties she encountered in her treatments she fought her battle with courage, strength, and grace. She did not lose that battle to cancer because throughout everything she kept her faith, her dignity and her firm belief that a better life awaited her after death.
The many that knew and loved her will mourn her absence, but we all recognize and are grateful that her time of suffering is over.
She is survived by her husband David A. Duncan; daughters Rebekah (Duncan) Baker, Rachel (Duncan) McDermott, and Ruth Duncan; mother Jimmie Lou Kuchar; siblings Frank Charles Kuchar and Hilda Jean (Kuchar) Ginn.
